§ 15-43. State license tags.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person to operate on the highways, streets or alleys of the city any motor vehicle which does not have current registration plate(s) issued by the director of revenue, State of Missouri, except that whenever a motor vehicle or trailer owner purchases a replacement motor vehicle or trailer from an individual or dealership, the owner of a motor vehicle or trailer may operate the newly acquired motor vehicle or trailer with such transferred license plates for no more than thirty (30) days from the date of purchase until making proper application for title and transfer of license plates with an office of the department of revenue. The license plates may only be transferred if the vehicle acquired is of the same vehicle category as the vehicle being replaced. The registration plate(s) shall be displayed unobscured and unobstructed with all parts thereof plainly visible and reasonably clean and fastened securely thereto. On all motor vehicles, one (1) plate shall be displayed on the front and the other on the rear of such motor vehicle, not less than eight (8) nor more than forty-eight (48) inches above the ground; except that on trailers, motorcycles, motor tricycles and motor scooters, one (1) plate shall be so displayed on the rear thereof. In the event that only one (1) license plate is issued, such plate shall be displayed on the rear of the motor vehicle.
